Foundry Lofts – 1100 Lansdowne Avenue
Foundry Lofts is one of the grandest and most stunning lofts in the Davenport Village classified as a Toronto Heritage Property. This authentic conversion of a 19th Century Train Factory was occupied by Canada Foundry Co. Ltd., which built electric locomotives.
In the 1920s, it became Canadian General Electrics Davenport Works, until it was shut down in 1981. Most recently, the site was used to film major movies.
Burka Varacalli Architects helped to preserve the Foundry Lofts red brick building, which is representative of 20th century industrial design with its gabled roof and distinctive monitor on top.
A contemporary lobby with original exposed brick leads into the courtyard (see photos), off of which there are indoor amenities such as a fitness centre and recreation room.
Loft suites feature 19 foot ceilings, prefinished hardwood floors, original exposed brick walls and large warehouse windows. Kitchens have maple cabinetry, granite countertops and halogen track lights, while bathrooms feature frameless glass shower stalls and stone countertops.
The Foundry Loft suites also have energy-efficient heat and air-conditioning systems. It’s been classified as a “Green Condominium” by the city of Toronto. The monthly maintenance fees are much lower than average at approximately 25¢ per square foot.
